Last week Lizzy and I had the incredible opportunity to perform 4 full-house illusion shows for the Investment Banking company Credit Suisse in New York City! The shows were for their holiday party and the audience was filled with Credit Suisse employees and their families (children of all ages were in attendance!). The shows consisted of someone floating in the air and being cut in thirds in a way never seen before…among other grand illusions. The feedback we received of the shows was great!

Last week I had the honor to perform for the second consecutive year at a fundraiser event benefiting “Maya’s Hope”. Maya’s Hope works to improve the quality of life of orphaned, impoverished, and special-needs children on a global scale. An incredible organization! The event was held at the beautiful Ukrainian Institute of America in New York City and was attended by hundreds!

I walked around the party mingling with guests while performing cool close-up magic. The guests loved it and it was a great addition to the event’s DJ and silent auction.

But the most important part of this day, and what made it so different and special, was that this event was a fundraiser for an amazing charity called Camp Sundown. Camp Sundown is a camp for children with Xeroderma Pigmentosa (XP), an illness where sunshine is the enemy. Imagine that you had to put on a hooded jacket, gloves and hat every time you went outside to keep the sun from blistering your skin. XP is a rare disease that causes extreme light sensitivity and puts patients at risk for cancers, ulcers and other conditions. As Camp Sundown says, “Camp Sundown brings together children and their families to share experiences, information and laughter under the safety of the stars.” This day camp experience runs on a different time clock. Turning night into day, Camp Sundown provides a week of fun, friendship and activities. For families and children dealing with XP on a daily basis, this is a dream come true.”

Being able to entertain at an event that was supporting and raising money for such a great cause is just another reason why I, and the rest of the Extreme Team, love what we do! Lizzy magically disappeared while completely surrounded, a woman’s diamond ring appeared inside a gumball machine, I escaped from a chained and locked box while being secured with handcuffs, and many other illusions. We were told what a great time was had by all!

Making the Bar/Bat Mitzvah boy or girl magically appear from a cage of fire would be cool, creative, extravagant, and most importantly MEMORABLE…something guests who have been to many celebrations have never seen before, and something they wouldn’t forget! The Extreme Magic of Eric did just that, and in the last 6 months alone, we have made over 15 Bar/Bat Mitzvah kids appear from a cage of fire, while completely surrounded by guests, for their grand entrance! It’s 100% safe and can even be done with little fire or no fire at all if the venue doesn’t allow it, and it still makes for an incredible illusion and entrance. It can be done literally anywhere.

When the kid appears, all his or her friends always ask, “how did you do that?!!” and it really sets the tone for an amazing party that is ahead. I’ve seen girls come out carried by dancers or lowered from the ceiling, boys come out roller-skating or with pretty models, but I wanted something sooo different and something that would amaze and fool young and old alike…and our Grand Appearance Illusion does just that! And — all that’s needed is just 5 minutes of rehearsal with the Bar/Bar Mitzvah boy or girl. It’s super easy and we take care of everything! And if your party has a certain theme, we can discuss ideas to modify the illusion and music to fit it.

We performed 5 full-scale magic & illusion shows in NYC at the beautiful Frederick Loewe Theatre… each show a complete full house of about 300 people! The theater’s audio and lighting technical crew were amazing (shout-out to them : ) and we turned the stage into a Las-Vegas style illusion show! Some of the illusions included a wooden crate floating in the air and then Lizzy magically appearing from inside it; Lizzy disappearing from onstage, and in an instant, appearing in the back of the audience; hanging upside-down in a straightjacket high in the air, attempting to escape the death-defying “Jaws”; and so much more! The NYU audience was fun and energetic, and myself, Lizzy, and the rest of the Extreme Team had a great time performing for everyone!
